FIFA has revealed the results of the vote for the 2019 World Player of the Year award, which was crowned by Argentine Lionel Messi, Barcelona captain, on Monday.
The Argentine international won the “Best” award for the first time after the launch of the new version in 2016, to beat the Dutch defender Virgil van Dyck, Liverpool defender, and Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus star
FIFA issued the final results of the vote, which showed Messi had the highest number of points, with 46 points.
Van Dijk was second with 38 points, while Ronaldo trailed by two points (36 points) to finish third.
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah came in fourth with 26 points, three ahead of Senegal’s Sadio Mane.
